Concert Checklist 2011
Step Up Concert Reminders – It is best you check these things a week or two in advance of the concert!!
o Correct shoes and Stockings:
Ballet students: CLEAN pink leather ballet shoes, Grade 3 and up need ballet ribbon sewn on and theatrical pink ballet stockings.
Jazz students: Tan jazz shoes, preferably slip on and not lace up and shimmer, tan jazz stockings
Hip Hop students: Black hip hop boots for junior hip hop. Senior Hip Hop, white canvas shoes from big w and shimmer, tan jazz stockings.
Junior Contemporary and Tiny Tots: pink leather ballet shoes, elastic sewn across the top. Pink ballet stockings.
Senior Contemporary: Foot thongs and pink convertible ballet stockings.
Boys: hair spiked, no make up.
o Your costumes:
Please make sure you have tried them on your child prior to the dress rehearsal, some may need minor alterations ie. Straps taken up, please check this to make sure your child is comfortable on stage otherwise they will spend the whole day pulling it up.
o Hair Pieces that came with your costumes:
Check that you have your hairpiece in the same as everyone else before going on stage. Girls wearing wigs you need 10 or more bobby pins to hold it on.
o Hair (you all need lots of bobby pins and hairspray):
Ballet/Junior Contemporary girls: Neat buns, no fringes or whispy bits. Use lots of hairspray and a bun net is a must! Do not come without a bun net. A braid will be done for you on the day concert day, however you are responsible for putting your hair in a bun.
Jazz and Hip Hop: Neat pony tails, no fringes. Straightening your hair will look best if possible. It will also stop it from going frizzy and keep it neat for the evening concert.
Senior Contemporary/Modern Performance: Hair out, braid at the front.
o Braids: All students are having a braid across the top of their head from left to right, there will be very limited helpers on the day so if you can come and help braid that would be very much appreciated (please tell Miss Nicole). If you need your hair braided you need to be there at 9am. Do not get there at 11am and expect your hair to be done.
o Make-Up:
Make-Up Packs will be available, please fill out a form with money in an order form to place an order, money needs to be in by the end of this week (alternatively you can email info@stepupdance.com.au to order). This will help you to have the same make-up and colours as everyone else. I highly recommend you purchase one, it will last a few years and is good quality make-up. Its not a good idea to buy cheap make-up as it is often the wrong colour and will be lucky to last an hour. Come to the concert with make up on to save congestion and time if you already know how to do it. Need eyelashes? Bring in $7 and I can give them to you.
Please note; that you if turn up with make-up that is not the same as everybody then you will need to go to the make-up table and get it fixed. You need to remember that stage make-up will seem silly up close but on stage it will highlight their features when they are on stage under the lights.
Juniors 10yrs and under: foundation to suit skin, black eye liner tracing from the corner of the eye and up 2cm. Brown/gold eyeshadow, black mascara or false eye lashes, pink blush, white eyeshadow that can be traced above the pink blush and above your eyeshadow. Pink lipstick.
Senior 11yrs and over: foundation to suit skin, black eye liner tracing from the corner of the eye and up 2cm. Brown/gold eyeshadow, black mascara or false eye lashes, pink blush, white eyeshadow that can be traced above the pink blush and above your eyeshadow. Red lipstick.
o Hair and Make Up Table: We have arranged for a hair and make-up table on the day. If you need help with a braid, you can come and line up at 8.30am. You are then responsible for your own bun or pony tail once it has been braided. If you can braid your own hair from left to right across the top then please do so at home.
If you need help with make-up and do not have the correct colours then you need to be at the make-up stall at 8.30am. Everybody needs to be the same, do not be offended if you are asked to fix your make-up when you get there.
One thing we noticed from dress rehearsal is that it looked as though a good number of people had little or no make-up on at all. This will not be acceptable on concert day.
o When do I need to be there? Everyone needs to be there at 10am, no later for the 12pm show and 5pm for the evening show at 6pm. If you need help with hair and make-up, you need to be there well before these time slots (see above). Tiny Tots, I would recommend you coming half an hour before the show to cut back waiting time for the littlies but no later than 11.30am and 5.30pm.
o Want a DVD?
See Debbie at the tickets table to order one.
o Do not touch the Mens Shed equipment: Parents it would be very much appreciated if you could keep an eye on this for us as we won’t be down there.
o Interval: Nobody (including parents) are allowed to go up and down the stairs during the show. The only time anyone is allowed from the audience and down to the dressing rooms is during interval. This allows the DVD man to do his job properly as well as the photographer and means no distractions for the children on stage.
o Can I just drop my child there on the day? One thing we recommend to our parents is that you pair up with another family and one dress the children for the matinee while the other watches the show and then rotate for the evening performance. Every year we get parents that just drop their children and leave them with no hair or make-up and no idea what to do. It is not someone elses responsibility if you have not arranged for someone to help. This is why we have the hair and make-up table to help you. If your child does more than one dance then you need to make sure yourself or someone is there to change them and help them. Do not assume someone else will just be there to help.
Please do not leave these to the last minute. It is a very busy/chaotic day and we need everyones co-operation to make things run smoothly. I know for first-timers this can all be a bit over-whelming but we have an extremely helpful bunch of parents and seniors that have been doing it for years and will be more than willing to help if you need it.
Sorry to overload with info but I want to try and answer all of your questions, thankyou so much for your help this year. Dress rehearsal was a fabulous success and we cannot wait to see the finished product on the 10th of December. See you then!

Week 3 – Normal Classes @ the studio
Week 4 – Normal Classes @ the studio
Week 5 – Normal Classes @ the studio

- Tickets for our concert, “Step into the Jungle” will be available first week back of term 4, I recommend booking your tickets quick as Dunedoo will also be travelling out to perform and they will be booking their tickets also. Matinee is 12pm and Evening is 6pm.
- When you receive your costumes please put them up in a cupboard where your child cannot put them on and play in. These costumes need to be in NEW condition when worn for all of the concerts and if they aren’t you will either have to purchase another one or you will not be able to dance.
- When or if you have received a costume bill please arrange payment asap as I am trying to get the bulk of them ordered and cannot do so until all are paid for.
- Step Up is closed during the two weeks holidays, if you need to contact me please do so on the first Monday back.
- During term 4 if your child misses more than 3 classes in the one subject they cannot dance in the concert unless they make up these 3 classes in 3 private lessons at $20 per class. This has been done before so please abide by this rule.
- As most of you know Step Up has grown quite a bit in 2010, this means there will be limited space out the back for changing. A new rule that I have to bring in is; no siblings or friends of the dancers are to be backstage. Parents please try and make arrangements now for them to be looked after as it is going to be absolute chaos out the back this year and you’re co-operation will be much appreciated.
- Any questions? Email me info@stepupdance.com.au

Term 3 Newsletter
Hi everyone, term 3 is just around the corner so here is your term newsletter. Term 3 consists of finalising our concert routines, ordering costumes, Wellington and Bathurst Eisteddfod and perfecting our exam exercises.
Here are a few things you need to know:
- Class fees were well overdue last time for some students, unfortunately if this continues your child will be asked to sit out, on top of that we will be charging a $20 weekly overdue fee from week 2 if nothing has been paid. If you struggle paying your fees please try and pay weekly. We have bills and living expenses also.
- We have Step Up Jackets available for the winter. If you would like to order one please put your name and size on an envelope with the correct amount enclosed. We also have cross-over’s and leg warmers if you’re wanting some extra warmth. Big, baggy school jackets and big parkers are not appropriate and make it very hard to dance in as they spend the whole lesson pulling them up over their shoulders.
- A big thankyou to the students that participated in the parade with us and to the people that helped us decorate and make it all possible. Very much appreciated.
- A huge congratulations to the stars that performed in Dubbo and Gulgong Eisteddfod. What a busy few weeks!! But well worth it in the end!!
- Costumes are ordered during term 3, if you haven’t paid I will not be ordering a costume and you won’t be able to dance in the concert.
- Thank you to everyone for moving back and forth during term 2, it was hectic and confusing but thank you for reading your newsletters and keeping up to date with it all.
- Please try and get the correct shoes for dancing this term, ballet shoes for ballet and contemporary, tan jazz shoes for jazz, tap shoes for tap and hip hop boots for hip hop.
- Please be aware if your child is dropped off and they don’t come inside and wait in the waiting room they are not our responsibility. It is impossible for us to watch your child when we are inside teaching a class. Please make sure your children know to wait inside after they are dropped off and after their class has finished.
- Our ladies classes are going well, Mum’s if you want a bit of extra exercise during the winter, come and join the fun on Mondays! 5.30 – Ladies Tap, 6.00 - Ladies Stretch and 6.30 – Ladies Jazz.
- Term 3 is the last term we take enrolments, if you have a friend that would like to join Step Up for the concert please tell them to come in and see us.
- Please note that there will be no solo's in the concert this year. As you all know the school has increased quite a bit since last year and we cannot accommodate for extra routines otherwise the concert will go all day and night!! I am planning on doing a solo's concert at the beginning of term 4 so that you can all perform your solo routines for family and friends on stage without the pressure of an eisteddfod. I am very sorry that we can't have solo's but this decision is not up for discussion. Duo's will still be performing.
- If you need to contact me I would prefer email, info@stepupdance.com.au – you can also ring me between 11.30 and 2pm, Monday – Thursday, having said that I do not wait by the phone in those hours and occasionally I will be unavailable or at an eisteddfod etc so if you cannot get in touch with me, leave a message or email me. I have a business number which is the number at the top of the page on every newsletter. I do not appreciate getting work calls or text messages to my personal phone which is a number I have not handed out for that reason. We are also closed during the holidays, if you need to speak to me please do it once term 3 has commenced.
Thankyou all for a great term. I am looking forward to our end of year concert with you all, which will be held on the 11th of December so keep the date free!! Thanks, Miss Nicole

OVERDUE FEES
Can anyone who owes money to Step Up please work out your bills and bring in your fees for term 1 and term 2, we are now coming in to week 8. If you can't afford to pay your bills per term then you need to be paying weekly. It is embarassing having to chase money up all the time when a newsletter is given to everyone clearly stating how much the term will be before you even commence. I will be applying late fee's ($20 per week that is overdue) to anyone from next week on that owes money. I have bills and living expenses to pay also.

Eisteddfod Concert at the RSL
Hi everyone,
Just realised you didn't receive newsletters on what to wear for the concert if your group is dancing. All groups - please wear your pink and black dance uniforms, hair in a neat high pony tail, no fringes and light stage make-up (a little bit of pink lipstick will be fine - I can do your black lines when you get there). Please make sure you have the correct shoes and stockings for your routines. They can be purchased from the dance shop in mudgee. Soloists and Duo's please wear your costumes.
Try and be there at least half an hour before if you want help with hair and make-up. Don't forget Step Up is closed until the 17th of April, if you need to call on that Saturday please do it between 4pm and 5pm.
Have a great easter! Hope the easter bunny brings lots of chocolate for you all!
Miss Nicole

Concert 2009
What a fantastic end to 2009!! I've been meaning to update and tell you all how proud we were of you all on the 12th. What a huge day for you all!! (Parents included!). You are all so fantastic to have your children organised for the concert, I understand it is such a hectic and stressful time for you all but I could not ask for a better bunch of families to work with and bring together Step Up at our end of year concert. It really is the best feeling to be in the wings and watching you all come off stage after your routines and tell each other how much fun it was because thats what its all about!
I want to give a big wrap to Andrew at Print Storm who designed our awesome programmes (I will have some on enrolment day if you missed out!), Bathurst Sound and Lighting who are the best in the business!! All of our costume designers (everyone raved about how beautiful costumes were this year!), RSVP who recorded a wonderful DVD for us to keep to remember the great fun we had and of course all of our spectacular parents and students. It is such an honour to work with you all every week.
I hope you all have a relaxing and stress free break and that santa was good to you all! We look forward to seeing you in the new year when Loredo from So You Think You Can Dance 2009's Top 10 joins us for our Summer School Workshop!! You don't want to miss it!!
Love to you all, Miss Nicole and Miss Kate.

Term 2 Changes for weeks 2,3,4 & 6
I'm apoligising in advance for what a mess this term is going to be, i'm so sorry! Please ring me if you are confused and I will help you.
Week 2, myself and Miss Kate are going to be flat out with the Gulgong Eisteddfod so we may be away for some of the junior classes but we have organised some great teachers for you so your classes will run normally.
Classes will be in Mayne Street, Gulgong (where Dew Drop used to be and a couple of doors down the the Chemist), our sign will be in the window so you will see us there, this is for week 2,3 and 4. We were lucky enough to find somewhere with floorboards that won't give you all splinters! but unfortunately it is not big enough for 2 studios so the timetable will be different for those 3 weeks, it will not interfere with the majority of you but some of the senior classes have been moved to the Friday for those 3 weeks.
Can I also ask that because I may not be there for some of the junior classes and my senior students will be teaching that parents, friends, brothers and sisters please drop the students and go, if you have any questions they need to come to me as they won't know the answers. A lot of our classes have grown this year which means we need their attention only on us and not whose coming in and out of the door or standing there watching (this includes Tiny Tots classes). Thankyou for making this easier for us! and again I'm very sorry about the mix up and as I said I will be at the eisteddfod during week 2 from the Tuesday so I if you do ring and I'm not available, I will ring you back asap.
Thanks again!
PS. We are still working about week 6, there is an exhibition in the hall before the June Long Weekend. I will let you know what we end up doing.

A great start to 2009...
We have had a fantastic start to 2009 and we are very excited to have more students than ever! Thankyou for being understanding, it's very hard trying to answer questions when we're teaching so if you need anything please try to catch us in between classes very quickly so we're not wasting your childs classtime.
The mirrors donated by the Leatherbys at Mudgee Glass have been fantastic, they are a great asset to our new premises at the Memorial Hall and we have so much space to dance in which is a great improvement for the school.
Some groups, solos and duos will be performing at the show which is this weekend, the 14th. We also have an Eisteddfod concert coming up on the 28th of March. I have also put in all your eisteddfod entries for Gulgong!! It took me forever because we have so many dancing in the eisteddfods this year which is great!! We are very excited for it to begin. Now we need to organise some costumes!!
I just wanted to let you know i'm having a lot of trouble trying to get our new photos on here.. I think its because we have so many now! but I am trying to fix it asap.
Thankyou to everyone for showing so much enthusiasm for your dancing this year!

Update for Term One
Term one has started back so welcome back all our students from last year and our new ones. We are very proud to say that over 100 students are now enrolled to dance with us in 2008, a great number considering we had 75 last year and we're only a small country town! We look forward to working with you all.
This term we will be concentrating on getting organised for the Gulgong Show, early March and the Gulgong Eisteddfod, first week in May.
There will also be some small changes to the timetable in the next couple of weeks but we will give you notice beforehand.
I want to thank parents for waiting outside while your childs class is in progress, we find that the children concentrate more and are less distracted.
Last of all, I wanted to remind you all to look at our concert photos if you haven't already ordered some as we won't have them for much longer. Our DVD is in the process of being fixed as some dances were missed on the DVD so we need to get the original off the videographer and we are trying very hard to do that as quickly as possible!
**The timetable tab is in the process of being updated. In the meantime you can get copies of our timetable from us during classtimes. Thanks for being patient**

The Concert
Congratulations everyone! You all did a fantastic job in the concert and we are so proud of you all.
Thankyou so much to the parents, you don't get enough credit for all of your hard work and thankyou for being so co-operative in my first year with the school. I really appreciate it.
All of the helpers in the concert, the parents that helped out the back and Mark Harris for a taping our concert. Julie Gillan for taking the photos, they are absolutely beautiful.
Bathurst Sound and Lighting did a fantastic job with the music and the lights so thankyou very much guys.
On behalf of Kate and I, we cannot describe how happy we are with your performances in the concert. You were all just so wonderful.
DVD's and photos from the concert are available in 2008, we also have spare copies of the programme if anybody missed out.
Don't forget out enrolment day on the 1st Feb, followed by the dance workshops on the 8th, 9th and 10th of Feb which is $15 per class or $40 for all classes. We recommend that you attend all four if you are unsure of what classes you want to take in 2008 to help make the decision!
To all of the parents and students, have a MAGICAL CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR and we'll see you on the 1st of Feb 2008!!!
